„Stalag XX B – saving the memory”

is the place where the history of the prisoner of war camp operating until 1945 in the area of Marienburg-Willenberg, now Malbork, is recalled. Stalag XX B was the largest (in terms of the number of prisoners of war under its command) POW camp in the region, i.e. the 20th Military District. The largest number of registered prisoners of war (i.e. in the camp, the prisoner-of-war hospital and the numerous work commands under the camp commandant’s authority) was in August 1944. – over 35,000. According to conservative estimates, at least 55,000 POWs passed through Stalag XX B during its entire existence. At the end of the war, there were more than 1,000 working commandos alone. Importantly, the commandos of Stalag XX B were scattered throughout the northern part of the 20th Military District (its range covered the Reich District of Gdańsk-West Prussia), and thus in the largest production centres of the region – Gdańsk, Elbląg and Gdynia. The site evokes the memory of the camp as well as of all the prisoners of war so that as many people as possible learn about the history of this place.
